George Armitage, who wrote and directed by Alec Baldwin-Glum Miami Blues and Helmed of the 1990s Black Comedy, Great empty pointHe played John Cusack, he died. He was 83 years old.
Armitage died on February 15 at Playa del Rey, California, announced his son Brent Armitage.
As was the case with many others, Armitage achieved a major increase in his career from the legendary B-Film producer Roger Corman from New World Pictures in the early 1970s.
Armitage also wrote and directed MGM Hit man (1972), in which he plays Bernie Casey and Pam Gier and United artists’ Force (1976), in the lead roles Kris Kristofferson and Jan-Michael Vincent. Both of these films were produced by Roger’s brother, Gene Corman.
Miami Blues (1990), on the basis of the Hoke Moseley Book by Charles Willeford, presented Baldwin as Frederick J. Frenger Jr., who steals a badge and a pistol of a veteran police officer (Fred Ward as Moseley) and embarks on a tireless crime with a whore (Jennifer Jason (Jennifer Jason Leigh).
Re -achieved with Great empty point (1997), in which Cusack portrayed a professional killer who attends his 10 -year gathering of high school in Detroit.
The youngest of two sons, George Brendan Armitage, was born in 1942 in Hartford, Connecticut. He moved to Los Angeles with his family in 1957 and graduated in political science and plunged at the UCLA Film School.
While he was in college, he landed in a postal room at 20th Century Fox, and worked as an associate producer on ABC in 18 months Peyton Place under the guidance of producer Everett Chambers in 1967.
His first scenario, renegade of young comedies Gas -sss or has become necessary to destroy the world to save it (1970) attracted the attention of Roger Corman.
In the summer of 1970. Corman went to Ireland to direct the war movie From Richthofen and brown (1971) and offered Armitage a role in the film while working on his script. He met the publicist of the film, future director Jonathan Demme, and the two would become lifelong friends.
For Corman, Armitage also wrote and/or directed Nurses in private duties (1971), Nurses for a night call (1972), Warmth (1974), Darktown Strutters (1975) I. The fight is crazy (1976).
Much later directed and produced Big jump (2004), based on Elmore Leonard’s novel and plays Owen Wilson.
In addition to his son, his wife from 63, Sharon, survived; daughter -in -law Rhonda Sena; grandchildren Caroline and Nick Armitage; niece Wendy All-Ohlak-Thorlaklason, producer; and nephew Dennis Thorlaklason, editor.
“I have a very personal attitude towards the movie,” Armitage said once. “I kept going to movies from the baby. I thought I could have fun trying to make them. I always thought I was pretty close to what people think.
“There are many tricks to play, things to do in the movie. The movie is so close to the way the mind acts – the way the mind communicates with it. The movie is a dream, an emotional code.”
