Kristin Chenoweth applauds One Million Moms after the organization began a boycott Wicked movie.
The conservative group’s latest petition asks parents to pledge not to watch Jon M. Chu’s movie musical because it “pushes the LGBTQ agenda on families, especially children.”
“Of course, the musical contains an enormous amount of wizardry and sorcery, and that content leads most parents to avoid taking their children to see it Wicked. But the film also features not-so-subtle cross-dressing and male-on-male infatuation, which parents may not expect,” the petition states. “Instead of a rousing Broadway musical about friendship and family, talent and resources have been used to create a dark film that also encourages vigilantism.”
Chenoweth, who originated the role of Glinda in the Broadway musical Wicked In 2003, responded to the One Million Moms petition, write in a comment on Instagram, “Everyone knows that ‘a million moms’ are only a few hundred. Perhaps. it’s called fun. Art. I’m a Christian or I created the role of Glinda and all the nonsense these women spew out of hatred. no no no I can’t help it: I try to love them anyway. Because they don’t get it. For anyone who wants to see girl power, then go for it WICKED. On stage or in the cinema.”

“I think Elphie is… She goes where the wind goes. I think he loves Glinda, I think he loves love. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with celebrating the deep connection they both have,” said Erivo. “They have a real connection. It’s true love, that’s probably why people send it. What they build with each other is an unbreakable bond and love.”
Grande added: “And trust and truth and such a safe space for each other, which all relationships should be, whether romantic or platonic.”
