Lee Walters is to be chairman of BAFTA Cymru Wales, it was revealed on Monday.
Walters, who is chief executive of Ffilm Cymru Wales, the Welsh film development agency, from 2023 succeeds BAFTA Cymru award-winning presenter Angharad Mair after nine years in the role.
BAFTA Cymru was established over 35 years ago to support, celebrate and nurture creative talent in Wales.
As Chair, Lee leads the BAFTA Cymru Board, which helps guide their work supporting the film, games and television industries in Wales through the annual BAFTA Cymru Awards and program of activities.
The committee also oversees the distribution of the Prince William BAFTA Scholarships. Walters was co-opted into the BAFTA Cymru board in April
Prior to his time at Ffilm Cymru Wales, he enjoyed a varied 15-year career at the BBC culminating in a communications-focused role as Senior Change Manager establishing BBC Wales’ new headquarters in central Cardiff.
“I feel extremely privileged to succeed Angharad Mair as chairman of BAFTA Cymru,” said Walters. “During her tenure, Angharad has been a true champion of the industry and talent we have here in Wales, and I look forward to continuing that mission. Wales is a nation of natural storytellers, rich in language and culture, and I feel passionately about the positive role BAFTA can play in celebrating that excellence and nurturing a new generation ready to tell our stories to the world.”
