Alex Garland and Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza take audiences inside a real-time Iraq war siege involving US Navy SEALs in the first trailer for A24 Warfarewhich fell on Monday.
The bloody, visceral retelling of the 2006 Iraq War plunges viewers into the horrors of military combat by showing a squad of American soldiers in an Iraqi family’s home under heavy bombardment and attack. A24’s synopsis of the film describes it as “a visceral story of modern warfare, told like never before: in real time and based on the memories of the people who lived it.”
“Alpha 2, we might have guys starting to move in on our position,” Will Poulter in full war gear, with a radio at one point in the trailer. This is followed by a massive explosion and machine-gun fire in the war film based on the real-life experiences of ex-Navy SEAL Ray Mendoza during the Iraq War.
Mendoza, who served as military supervisor at Garland Civil waris played in Warfare by D’Pharaon Woon-A-Tai. The cast includes Joseph Quinn, Cosmo Jarvis, Kit Connor, Finn Bennett, Taylor John Smith, Michael Gandolfini, Adain Bradley, Noah Centineo, Evan Holtzman, Henrique Zaga and Charles Melton.
Directed by Mendoza and Garland Warfare from the script they wrote together. The war film is produced by DNA’s Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich, along with Peter Rice. A24 is handling the global release of the film, which is planned for 2025.
Garland Civil warabout the second civil war that divides the nation, stars Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny, Jesse Plemons and Nick Offerman. The director has previously directed titles Men, Destruction and Ex Machina.
