For Good’ Selected for 2025 release

Wicked: Part 2 magically changed its title ahead of its theatrical release next year.

The film is a sequel to last month’s hit film Wicked will be officially titled Wicked: For goodand Universal Pictures is announcing the new moniker on Monday. The two-part adaptation of the Tony-winning Broadway hit was long in the works after the stage version debuted in 2003.

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo star in director Jon M. Chu’s film, which hits theaters on November 21, 2025. Demand is clearly high for the second film, with the first already surpassing $520 million globally as it heads into the holidays.

Loosely based on the 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire Evil: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, Wicked tells the story of The Wizard of Ozcharacters before Dorothy’s arrival. Grande plays Glinda, while Erivo portrays Elphaba.

Rounding out the cast for the second film are Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum.

In his review of Wicked for The Hollywood Reporterleading film critic David Rooney wrote: “The producers were in no rush to bring the gold mine property to the screen, and their patience now pays off handsomely in Jon M. Chu’s fantastic film version, which enriches the source material while hailing the Golden Age of Technicolor MGM musicals, chief among them The Wizard of Oz.”

During a recent interview with THRthe film’s co-writer Winnie Holzman, who also wrote the book for the stage musical, explained why she wasn’t worried about fans spoiling the second film.

As Holzman joked about the musical, “It didn’t open yesterday — it’s been running for 21 years.”
