The American Cinematheque honors the artists behind Dune: Part Two, Wicked

Behind the scenes artists for movies like Dina: The second part, Wicked and Challengers are among the honorees for the American Cinematheque’s fourth annual Tribute to the Crafts. The event will take place on January 9 at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood.

Film producers and American Cinematheque board members Stephanie Allain and Paula Wagner will co-host the event. The event is intended to celebrate and honor individuals in 12 different categories, with clips of their work being played. Honorees include Emilia Perez choreographer Damien Jalet, Nickel Boys cinematographer Jomo Fray, and Wicked costume designer Paul Tazewell.

In addition, the American Cinematheque will honor Ed Lachman. Lachman is an Academy Award-nominated cinematographer and will receive a career achievement award for his outstanding career. Lachman scored more than 80 points in a span of 50 years. Lachman’s filmography also includes Sofia Coppola Suicide virginsSteven Soderbergh Erin BrockovichTodd Haynes’ Far from heaven and Song and Pablo Larraín Count. Lachman recently collaborated with Larraín on his latest film Mariastarring Angelina Jolie as opera singer Maria Callas.

In a statement, Grant Moninger, artistic director of the American Cinematheque, said, “Film is the most collaborative art form, and the American Cinematheque is thrilled to celebrate the essential work of the craftsmen and artisans behind this year’s best films.”

According to the organization, “Tribute to The Crafts honors those at the very heart of filmmaking who have demonstrated outstanding work behind the camera over the past year.”
