Brutalist Director Brady Corbet said this week he “earned zero dollars” on his film nominated for an Oscar.
“I just directed three commercials in Portugal,” Corbet said during the performance WTF with Marc Maron. “It’s the first time I’ve made any money in the years.”
Corbet continued to elaborate that he and his wife (and creative partner) Mona Fastvold “made zero dollars in the last two films we made.”

When Maron asked Corbet to clarify his comments about payment, the director said, “Yes. In fact, zero. We just had to live somehow from a salary from three years ago.”
The financial tribute is not exclusive to Corbet, he said. “I’ve talked to many movie players who have nominated films this year who can’t pay their rent. I mean, that’s the right thing.”
The director noted that the filmmakers “are not paid to promote the movie” and that “if you watch certain films that premiered in Cannes, that was almost a year ago … I mean, our movie premiered in September. So, I do it Six months.
Corbet said the long -lasting press circle felt like a “six -month test”, later saying that he ended up 90 interviews last week.
“It’s been seven days a week,” he said. “It’s boundless. It’s a constant trip, and you work on Saturday and Sunday. I didn’t have a day off from a Christmas break, and that was only four days.”
