When director Richard Linklater brought his Before sunrise Until Berlinale in 1995, he knew a little that he began what would become a true tradition. The movie starred Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy as two young students who meet in the Euro train and enjoy romantic walking and conversation on the streets of Vienna before the day of the break.
“We knew it was the risk of this movie, but that’s why we did it on a low budget,” Linclater said at a festival press conference. “I don’t think they will lose money on this movie.” That was something underestimation. The Castle Rock production in the amount of $ 2.5 million not only earned Linklater Silver Bear Fest for the best director, but, published by Columbia Pictures, she became Indie Hit, collecting $ 22.5 million around the world.
And so almost a decade later, Linklater returned to the 2004 festival Before sunsetin which the characters of Hawke and Delpy are re -connected during the afternoon in Paris. Then in 2013, Linklater returned to the festival once again to finish the trilogy Before midnightHe plays Hawke and Delpy again, whose characters have become a couple, but whose future is at stake while spending the day expulsion of their differences while on vacation in Greece. At the screening of that film, the director of the Dieter Kosslick Festival surprised the director by presenting him the Berlinale Camera trophy, the honor of 1986 to recognize the talents or institutions to which the festival feels particularly indebted.
Observed Thr Critic John Defore from the movie, “Before midnight It offers the possibility that the relationship between the married couple will end up in a one -day conflict between resentment and parental guilt. … it turns out, it’s as dramatic as the clock that ticks. “The movie, of course, did not mark the end of Linklater and Hawke’s employment. This year they return to Berlin to the world’s premiere of the director’s latest film, the Sony Pictures Classics music drama Blue Moonin which Hawkes will play songwriter Lorenz Hart.
