Ryan Reynolds received the Order of Honor of Canada

Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds has been named a recipient of the Order of Canada, the country’s highest civilian honor.

In addition to his Hollywood acting and producing success, Canadian-born Reynolds was cited by Governor General Mary Simon for his charitable work with Water First Education, Covenant House Vancouver and the Sick Kids Foundation, among other initiatives to support underrepresented groups.

“His far-reaching philanthropy continues to strengthen communities across the country,” reads the Order of Canada citation. Earlier this month, Reynolds of New York received The Hollywood Reporterthe Producer of the Year award and during the interview he said: “I’ve always been proud to be Canadian. I feel like Canada is one of my parents. He taught me some core values ​​that have come in handy every week, if not every day, since I left home when I was 18 or 19.”

Other recipients of the Order of Canada include former Universal Music Canada and Bell Media CEO Randy Lennox. “It is a privilege to work in a creative business that I love. This recognition was not something I could have imagined and I am humbled to receive this honor,” Lennox said in a statement to THR.

“None of this would have been possible without the incredible artists, partners and teams I’ve had the pleasure of working with throughout my career,” added the Canadian music and media veteran.

Also honored as one of the last 88 Canadians named to the Order of Canada is author Maureen Jennings, who created a series of detective William Murdoch novels that were later adapted into a long-running novel The Murdoch Mysteries TV series starring Yannick Bisson.

Canada also recognized as an officer folk singer Heather Rankin, who is known for her solo work and as part of the cult band The Rankin Family.
